Finding a vehicle for a new driver can seem like a daunting challenge, but Consumer Reports recently put together a list of the top 10 best used cars for teens. They recommend buying the safest most reliable vehicle possible within a family’s budget.
The most important vehicle advancement since seat belts is electronic stability control (ESC). It helps keep drivers on the road in emergency situations. A vehicle with ESC will also have anti-lock brakes and probably traction control – ESC became mandatory in 2012, but most cars began including it as standard equipment before that.
Airbags are another important safety feature and curtain air bags, which cover the side windows, can help keep passengers inside during an accident. The vehicles on the list were deemed by Consumer Reports as being able to handle well in emergency maneuvers and have good stopping distances, and not be too slow or too fast.
