Does Your Car Make the Top 10 Most Stolen List?

The Federal Bureau of Investigation estimates that in any given year 500,000 vehicles are stolen, in 2013 this number climbed to 699,594 vehicles. If you own a Honda Accord watch out as your vehicle is the most targeted. Honda Accord takes the top crown for the most stolen vehicle in 2015 as it was stolen 52,244 times. Thieves were particular too - and targeted the 1996 model year the most according to the National Crime Information Center.

Thieves are also partial to Honda’s other best-selling model, the Civic - both models took 1st and 2nd place. Pickup trucks rounded out the top four with Ford, Chevrolet and the Ram pickup.

• Lock your car and take the key - simple and an effective first line of defense
• Find a locked garage - thieves go for the easiest targets and cars on the street are more likely to be stolen
• Hidden Kill Switches: Consider getting a kill switch, fuel cut-off or smart keys, because if your car won’t start, it can’t be stolen
• Tracking devices - these will help the police track down and recover your stolen vehicle faster
• Don’t leave valuables in plain sight and don’t leave your title in the car
