Volkswagen of America is offering owners of 2.0-liter diesel vehicles affected by the diesel-emissions scandal a $1,000 Goodwill Package while it continues to work on a fix for the vehicles.
Current owners are being offered a prepaid Visa card and a $500 Volkswagen dealership card that can be used at VW Dealerships. Owners will also get complimentary 24-hour roadside assistance for three years.
Vehicles included in the program: 2009-’14 Volkswagen Jetta, 2012-’14 Volkswagen Passat and 2015 Volkswagen Golf. Volkswagen Touareg TDI models aren’t included in the program.
To take part owners must go to www.vwdieselinfo.com and enter their VIN number, mileage, and contact information. Owners must also take the vehicle to the dealership to activate the gift cards to prove they own the vehicle.
Owners can check eligibility here.
Audi A3 TDI owners will be offered the same Goodwill Package as VW owners and they can check eligibility here.
Volkswagen has said that the customers who take advantage of the program won’t be giving up their right to sue the company. Some experts warn that the clause is worded broadly and up for interpretation.
According to initial reports, 120,000 owners have registered out of about 482,000 affected vehicles.
